What’s in the Box: December 2019

In the final month of the decade, we sent out boxes packed to the gills with Fishmas spirit! While the fish may not be biting all around the country, there are still plenty of hungry fish-mouths waiting for a tasty treat tied onto a hook! Trout feed all winter and if your streams are open, it’s the perfect time to brave the cold and enjoy the solitude of a winter’s day on the water!

Find out what came in this month’s boxes below and if you haven’t joined The Postfly Tribe yet, click here to sign up. For those of you with fear of commitment, we’ve just released our kits WITHOUT subscription here.

Fly Tying Videos:

Trout: The Hot Butt Ant

Learn to tie this killer 3-season terrestrial dry fly. When the wind is a-blowing while you’re speculating on a trout stream, terrestrial patterns are a solid choice, as trout will be looking up, hoping an unlucky bug gets blown into the river with a “Plop!”

Saltwater: The Popper

One of our favorite ways to target fish in the salt is on topwater patterns like The Popper! Nothing beats watching a fish burst from the water hell-bent on taking your fly below the surface.

Warm Water: The Kreelex

Hands down our favorite early-season warm water fly, the Kreelex perfectly emulates a spoon bait in the water, flashing almost constantly as you retrieve it, it’s the perfect way to get the attention of sluggish bass and esox during the warm days of mid-winter and early spring!
