Postfly x Dawsonian Outdoors

Collaborating with artists on our monthly stickers is something we love to do. This round, we’re stoked to feature Dawson, an artist and angler based in South Carolina. He shared a few words with us for the blog…check it out!

Tell us a little about yourself…

My name is Dawson, I am 25 years old and live in the low country of South Carolina between pristine trout streams and redfish filled flats. I have been drawing and fishing ever since I can remember. I have always been obsessed with drawing animals starting from dinosaurs, to science fiction, and then to game fish.

Where do you draw inspiration from for your artwork?

I want my designs to portray the experience of chasing whatever, wherever, and however.  Every destination is special no matter where you live and it deserves some sort of attention.

What’s your connection to fly fishing and the outdoors?

I enjoy fly fishing particularly because it’s personal. Every imitation I provide and every motion I give can alter my results. Fly fishing requires the knowledge of nature to be successful.

Can you tell us a little more about the process of your designs?

One aspect I love about drawing fish is the movement you see through their entire body. I try to capture an image that shows movement and then add a story to the method and target of fishing.

Where’s your dream travel destination?

New Zealand, A whole lotta nothin with a whole lotta trout.

Sweet or salty?

Sweet. Redfish and tarpon are fun but there’s so many more ways to catch trout.

What’s on the horizon for you?

While still focusing on commissions, I intend to offer prints and a better selection of shirts.
